Slow, but still progress....

Over the past few weeks, progress has been a little slow due to weather, and waiting for cement to cure. The basement is almost complete, and Bobs plans for the "man cave" are in full force.

However, we do have power on the lot, beams in the basement, lumber delivered for framing, and the garage is underway.

We have POWER!
Check out our new pictures of our progress....

Cheers...to our first guests!!

We are making some progress on the homestead. The basement walls are poured, sealed and ready for framing!

Last weekend we had our very first guests over to celebrate our new home and christen the house with some champaign.

Take a look at the little celebration....

Cheers to many more happy memories here!!!

Ready. Set. Dig.

Bobby and I finally closed on our mortgage...only 3 weeks behind schedule - but who's counting?

Much to our surprise, the builders were at the lot the next day digging away. Perhaps the building industry is a little slow these days, but we'll take it. The builder is still advising the house will be complete in 3 months, but we're not too sure about that. As long as we're not moving in the snow - we can wait.

After rushing over to the lot to see the progress made throughout the day, I looked at the hole and said, "I thought our house was going to be bigger." Bobby looked like he was going to have a heart-attack. It was then I learned to just smile and leave the building up to him. I will tackle the decorating :)

Here is the progress we have seen to date. Stay tuned as I hope things pick up and become more interesting....

False Alarm...

To top off an amazing weekend Bob and I took the day off work to close on our mortgage today - yay (or so we thought)...

We received a strange phone call from the mortgage manager this afternoon, stating that the title company was not aware that we were closing today - awesome! She told us to hang tight and there was still a chance we could possibly close.

Possible brick selection
So, we "impatiently" waited around all day, only to find out that our paper work was not even close to be done, and she's not even certain we can close this week - boooo!

Oh well, so we continue to do what we have been...wait, plan, wait some more and hope to one day get this house built.

Tile and cabinet samples - along with lots of design books.
Keeps us busy!!

Patience is a Virtue...

Well, not too much to report....we are still awaiting the completion of our mortgage paperwork, so we can close and begin digging. I'm slowly losing patience - I blame that on my Italian heritage.

However, in order to stay busy and try not to think about another week passing and we're still in the same spot, I joined my amazing family down town at Belle Isle this afternoon for a little tour of old D-Town.

During our hike around the island, I was able to capture several pictures that I thought best represented the spirit of Detroit. Eventually, my plan is to use pictures that I have shot to hang around the new house.

Take a look and let me know if there are any particular images that you feel would make a good candidate - I love feedback. As always, thanks for stopping by!

Hopefully more to report soon...very soon! Just click on the pictures to make the view bigger!!

Lots of Lots

Just to provide a little background...

Bob and I decided to look for our prefect "Dream Home" 9 months ago. After searching weekend, after weekend, house after house,  realtor after realtor, we decided to build. Let me add,  it was not an easy decision. For those of you who know Bob, you all know that he had his calculator and spreadsheets out assuring that this was financially the "best" approach. Well, they say opposites attract right?

So, here we are - getting ready to tackle the joys, dedication, and stress of building our NEW HOME!! We are both excited, but my bank account is not feeling that same happiness.

Ater months of searching for the prefect lot, we finally found one. Lucky lot #32!! Stay tuned as we being digging (if the rain ever lets up!!)
